This emblem originates from the coat of arms of the Italian city of Amalfi, whose natives founded the Order. The eight points of the Maltese Cross represent the eight knightly vows: faith, mercy, truth, justice, purity, humility, sincerity, and patience.
The Maltese Cross served as an identifying mark, distinguishing the knights from others and from their enemies. The primary mission of the Order of the Hospitallers was to aid and protect pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land.
The ring can be made from bronze or sterling silver. Finished with decorative blackening to emphasize the texture.

Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925.
Bronze is an alloy made of copper and tin, has a beautiful warm golden tone, and is an affordable alternative to 10 or 14k gold.
Bronze does have one DRAWBACK, which is that the copper content can cause an oxidation reaction with your skin oils, creating a greenish layer of copper carbonate.
This layer is easily washed off, and you can minimize the oxidation by taking your jewelry off at night, and washing it regularly with soap and water.
